DUN LAOGHAIRE-RATHDOWN County Council excelled itself again during the recent snow. Most of the roads in the borough were left to their own natural de-icing devices over Christmas but the traffic wardens were as active as ever. On Christmas Eve, tidings reached me of an episode near Dalkey Station, involving a Mercedes and a parking stormtrooper.

There was a temporary traffic light on the bridge over the railway line on Cunningham Road so the Merc driver had to stop halfway up the hill. When the light changed, he couldn't get going again on the unsalted, ungritted road surface. His car began to slide backwards.
