Finding a breast lump is enough to put even the calmest of women into a spin. It's only natural to think the worst, but the vast majority of lumps turn out to be nothing to worry about and it's important not to panic.

In fact, far from demanding to be seen immediately, some women put off telling their GP because they dread the outcome. But sticking your head in the sand only makes matters worse. At best, it will delay reassurance that the lump isn't serious and at worst, for the unlucky few, it could give the tumour more time to spread, making treatment more difficult.
