The 2009 all-white England strip is, in the words of captain John Terry, 'the best kit I've ever seen.' Umbro's senior designer, David Blanch, puts it another way: 'The kit is a balance between performance technology and style in a very English way. It is completely steeped in English football culture but at the same time it's a whole new concept in football kit.' Base layer Blanch had observed that many players today wear a base layer-a tight-fitting top-under their shirts, so he decided to incorporate one into the new kit.
