Summary
Victoria Beckham has finally been forced out of her towering platform heels - thanks to a slipped disc, writes DR ELLIE CANNON. Her predicament is a common one: having just given birth, she is suffering from what we call 'baby back', a result of hormonal changes during pregnancy that weaken the joints. I take this problem seriously as it can hinder a mother from bonding with her baby. Here is the advice I give to my patients.
What is baby back? Slipped discs usually occur after an awkward strain or lifting something heavy. While pregnant, the body makes a hormone called relaxin. This loosens all the ligaments in the body to prepare for birth. But this laxity makes it much easier to slip a disc. The effects of relaxin continue for up to five months after birth. In conjunction with carrying a baby, using a baby-carrier and lifting a buggy, slipping a disc is quite common.See the full content of this document
