THE wonderful thing about the nation's new economic position - that being edge of cliff, funk of depression, staring into abyss, all seven seals open, pale horses galloping about with gay abandon - is that it is nobody's fault. The justice minister confirmed this on TV last week to anyone who had any doubts: 'This is nobody's fault.'
It's lucky he issued that clarifier, because the common man might otherwise have thought someone was to blame. That's because the common man doesn't understand macroeconomics, the global bond market and the international balance of trade. The common man might just have looked at the situation we are now in and thought someone was responsible for shifting our tax base towards indirect taxation so any economic contraction would cause an instant hit in Exchequer funds.See the full content of this document
