Jacques Chirac may not be a fan, but even the French president could not dispute the quality of British food and drink on display at the Royal Show in Warwickshire. And the winners of the Waitrose Small Producers Awards, announced at last week's event, represented some of the best fare on offer.

Michael Brown had two reasons to celebrate. His firm, Brown and Forrest, won Pounds 5,000 for being top of the fresh produce category with its delicious smoked eel, and was awarded the same sum for winning the Financial Mail on Sunday Business Award.
