CROKE Park's director of games Pat Daly believes the GAA's future in New York lies in developing local talent 'It's the only way forward.

If you cut the umbilical cord with here in terms of players going out for the big games, then it will happen. You have to try and grow it on an indigenous basis. It probably would have happened in the past except for all the guys recruited from Ireland.' New York's team today contains the usual mix of Irish players and a few local faces. At underage level, though, there is a new generation of Irish- American players, born in the US, who have played all the way up the local club ranks. Of the 26 clubs in the New York area, 12 deal with underage players. However, it now needs to transfer onto the senior scene.
