Summary

HE WON'T PUT MY DAUGHTER IN HIS WILL

My partner and I have been together for 22 years; he earns about half a million a year, and over the next few years this will double. I work part time for about Pounds 12,000 a year. I am not a greedy person, but I do have a problem with his will. He is worth more than Pounds 5 million, which will all go to his children. They rarely visit us, and when they do they only stay for an hour. My daughter, who is 25, has lived with my partner and I since she was three. He is always kind to her, but he has left her nothing in his will - he says that what I have will go to her. He gave me a flat, which I rent out, and has left a holiday home to me in his will. I think he should treat all of the children in the same way. He makes me feel inadequate about money and has damaged my self-esteem. We are both 62, our sex life is perfect and I enjoy being with him. What do you think? As your partner has been part of your daughter's life ever since she can remember, explain to him how hurt she might feel if she were excluded from his will. It conveys the message that she has been tolerated but never truly accepted. He should also make provision for you in the event that he dies before you. He could put money in a trust for your daughter from which you could draw an income in the event of this happening. Suggest to him that he doesn't have to divide things equally, but it would be unkind to exclude your daughter, then perhaps he might listen to you. After all, you have been together for 22 years and he has enough money to be generous to all of you.
